Nissa La Bella

I ended up finishing all the administration I could do before school starts, or I was waiting on someone to process a form so I could hand it in somewhere else, so I decided to go to the south of france on a small get-a-way. There isn't really going to be another opportunity this year to go on a trip outside of a weekend, so I decided to go a bit further. I flew into Nice on Saturday morning, hiked a couple of kms to the local train station, and took it (about 20 minutes) to villeneuve loubet. It's a small town just outside Nice, and there I set up camp (literally) and rented my bike for the next few days.

I then hit the beach in Ville Loubet to hangout and take some pictures, the beaches are interesting because they are not sand but palm sized stone.

After that I hit the bike path and rode 6 or 7 kilometers to antibes. It is an interesting place, and there i took a tour of 'Fort carrée'. A strategic fort before the Napoleonic era, it was really interested. That being said the tour was in french so I probably missed 50 percent of what was happening.

Below are two of the 4 'Bastions' that give the fort its strength. Rather than the four sides, these bastions provide many more sides in which the defenders can put cannons, as well as offering better protection from enemy fire.

And that basically did it for my day one!

The following day I did a big tour of Nice. I rode into Nice which was about 17km, and spent the day looking at what the city offered.

First was 'La Place Massena'

And then grabbed dinner in la Vielle Nice and did the 17km bike ride home. I know my family members wont think that's a lot, but ripping a 20 kg 1 speed takes some effort haha. Long day but I saw a ton

The following day I visited Cannes and Saint Raphael where I did a hike. Didn't take as many photos as I was photo'd out, but have a look!

With that I took the train back to Villeneuve Loubet, and spent the following day relaxing in town and then heading back to the airport. I loved it there. It was so beautiful and since I am becoming more confident in french its very easy to get around. I hope I can come back again, it is a little pricy, but camping took the edge off.

This was my first time travelling alone and while some people say they don't mind it or actually prefer it, it definitely takes a few points off the trip. It is always fun to share a view, or dinner, or hangout on the beach with someone, rather than being alone! All my travelling I have done has been with another person, either with family, a friend or army guys. That being said it certainly didn't ruin it, I had a ton of fun.
